Frequently Asked
Questions

Everything you need to know about our programs, eligibility, and how to get started.

What is Hunter Hearts & Homes?

Hunter Hearts & Homes is a nurse-led independent living solutions organization serving Birmingham and Tuscaloosa, Alabama. Founded by Cherese Hunter, RN, we bridge the gap between healthcare and housing insecurity by providing stable, supportive living environments guided by clinical expertise.

Who do you serve?

We serve individuals transitioning toward stability, including those experiencing housing insecurity, reentry citizens, veterans, individuals receiving SSI/SSDI benefits, and people with health needs that affect their housing situation. If you are unsure whether you qualify, reach out — we would rather have the conversation.

How do I apply for housing?

You can apply directly through our online referral form, or you can call us at (205) 202-1405. A case worker, social worker, family member, or you yourself can submit a referral.

What does "nurse-led" mean?

Our founder and director is a Registered Nurse with over 10 years of clinical experience. This means our approach to housing considers the medical, emotional, and practical needs of each person — not just the logistics of placing someone in a home. We see the full picture because we come from the clinical world.

What programs do you offer?

HHH is a proud affiliate of the RISE Group (reentry-focused housing with structured accountability). We also offer a Dog Therapy program for our residents. Visit our Programs page for details.

Do I need a referral from a professional?

No. You can reach out directly. While many of our referrals come from case workers, social workers, and agencies, individuals are welcome to contact us on their own behalf. Call (205) 202-1405 or email hhhomes205@gmail.com.

Still Have Questions?
